Contraindications

Warnings and Precautions
• Drowsiness: Monitor for drowsiness, especially when LuciStir is used in conjunction with other CNS inhibitors; consider reducing the initial dose of cobalt by 25% if drowsiness occurs during concomitant use with cobalt.
• Loss of appetite and weight loss: The patient's weight and the growth rate of pediatric patients should be carefully monitored.
• Neutropenia and thrombocytopenia: Blood counts should be performed before starting LuciStir treatment and then every 6 months.
• Discontinuation: LuciStir should be gradually discontinued to minimize the risk of increased seizure frequency and persistent seizure status.
• Risk in patients with phenylketonuria (PKU): LuciStir oral suspension contains phenylalanine; consider total daily intake before prescribing to patients with PKU.
• Suicidal behaviors and thoughts: Monitor suicidal thoughts or behaviors.

Medication risks

Adverse Reactions
Adverse reactions (and higher rates than in the placebo group) in at least 10% of patients treated with LuciStir included sleepiness, decreased appetite, agitation, ataxia, weight loss, hypotonia, nausea, tremor, dysarthria, and insomnia.
